Mercury Local Space Line

Many times, simply following your Mercury local space line to a location where you will be attending school or university will help you achieve success in this way. But this only works if your Mercury is already strong in your natal chart. If you have a 9th House Mercury, for instance, you will feel more aligned with your higher pursuits and have greater fortune in the realms of higher education. If you have a 12th House Mercury on the other hand, you might have trouble deciding what to pursue, and you might not even make it to graduation since the 12th House is the house of loss.

Mercury MC Line (Midheaven)

This same concept can be applied to the Planetary Angle Lines. If you look on your map and see your Mercury MC Line, by going East of that line you will be activating one of the strongest, most fortunate positions for Mercury, especially as it relates to higher education and higher purpose. This would likely be a great influence for any educational endeavor.

Going West of your Mercury MC Line would likely be a fine placement as well, but this is a 10th House activation, and the 10th House is more focused on career, and the work you do in the world, rather than education per se. So if you were going to a trade school, or beginning an apprenticeship perhaps, this side of the line might be the more fitting choice.

Mercury Ascendant Line

If you find your Mercury Ascendant Line and go East of that, you will have the exact opposite effect, because in this case you'd be activating the 12th House attributes for Mercury, which as we have seen aren't the most conducive to success in your educational pursuits. There might be an exception here if you are studying the arts, like film, drama, or dance, because the abstract nature of the 12th House could resonate with your educational activities, but you'd still need to be careful of the more difficult manifestations of the the 12th House, like loss, expenses, confinement, isolation, and things coming to an end.

If you were to go West of your Mercury Ascendant Line, you'd be activating a 1st House Mercury influence. While this isn't necessarily specific to educational success, Mercury in your 1st House could make you feel more intellectual. In addition, it can also help you align with things you want in life more clearly. People would find it easier to interact with you, and it can help you make friends and allow you to be more social. This is a fine placement in general, and can help bring positive qualities to multiple areas of life, so it shouldn't be limited to only education.
