About Paul - Creator of "Inside the Sun"

Hi, my name is Paul, and I am the creator of this website, Inside the Sun.

I am a practicing astrologer who focuses mainly on locational astrology as a service to help people find their best places to live, work, study, travel, and more.

I believe that locational astrology is an extremely valuable tool to help people make better decisions and get the most out of life, by helping them find the most opportune places to live and travel based on their goals, and yet I believe it is under-utilized and even less understood.

My Goal

That is why I am building this website. My intention is to give you as much information as possible so that you can begin to understand what locational astrology is, and how to start interpreting the various planetary influences on your own astrology map and how they relate to the places you've been, and the places you want to go.

Once you understand certain basics, my hope is that you continue to learn more so that you can begin to make better decisions in your own life about where to move or travel.

My Approach

My method is a six-pronged approach: understand your goals, look at where you've been, analyze your birth chart, explore your astrology map, assess your relevant relocation charts, and incorporate your planetary timing.

Understanding Your Goals

Where you go depends on what you want to do. For instance, if you want to live a quiet spiritual life, the planetary influences you'd look for would be much different than if you were looking for a rich social experience with a lot of adventure.

Other goals could include: where to go to school, where to grow a career, where to find a relationship, etc.

Looking at Where You've Been

The more information you have the better, because the clearer I can see how the experiences you've had in the various locations you've been line up with what we see on the map the more accurately we can see how places you go will be.

Many times people have very interesting and unique experiences on certain lines, so if they can explain how that energy manifested for them specifically we can get a clearer idea of how the same or similar planetary patterns will manifest for them in other places.

Analyzing Your Natal Chart

I use Traditional Vedic Astrology (Jyotish) to assess the natal chart and understand the native's personality and planetary strengths. This is important because so much of how the planetary influences manifest on the map are dependent upon your innate astrological makeup from birth.

From here we can see which planets are your strongest and can more easily manifest their positive results, and which ones are difficultly placed and have trouble manifesting their positive results. It is not as simple as saying benefic planets like Jupiter make things better, while malefic planets like Saturn makes things worse. While there is an essence of truth to this, it really depends on a person-to-person basis how the planets will likely manifest their significations based on each individual's birth chart.

Exploring Your Astrology Map

Once we understand your inherent planetary strengths and limitations, we can look upon an astrology map to see where many of the major influences are occurring geographically for you. Using a locational astrology map to locate places that might be good for certain objectives and life goals.

Depending on what your goals are, we can follow various astrology map lines to determine where you should be heading, and where you should be avoiding, in order to best leverage the proper planetary energies to attain your goals, geographically.

Assessing Your Relocation Charts

Once we find some interesting locations on your astrology map, then we can cast a relocation chart for that location (a chart as if you were born in that location) to see how all the planets are doing in that new location, based on any House Cusp activations. This will help us see more nuanced planetary influences that cannot be seen on the map.

Relocation chart interpretation is vital to understanding the bigger story of what you will likely experience in a given location. Each House Cusp activation is like a different note, giving off a range of possible potentialities depending on the planet, house, sign, and planet strength. Not all of these things can be seen on the map, so by not looking at the relocation chart we would be missing half the story.

For instance, if you find a place on the map with a difficult line, but in your relocation chart there is a strong 9th House activation, it can provide you the luck, protection, and grace to give you happiness there despite some other difficult patterns. Or on the other hand, if you have a great line going through a location on a map but the relocation chart has a difficult 6th, 8th, or 12th House activation, then it could be a deal breaker.

Utilizing Your Planetary Timing

Planetary timing is important in order to see what primary astrological influences are being activated in your life and when. Throughout your entire lifespan, various periods will be more influenced by certain planets over others. The timing system I use is the Viṁśottarī Daśā, which is the most popular timing system in Vedic Astrology tradition.

What we can glean from this information is what the different flavors of your life path experience have been up to this point, and what they will be in the future, no matter where you live. So if you had a difficult experience somewhere, and think it was the location, it could very well have been a difficult planetary period for you in general, which would have been difficult no matter where you lived. The same with the more harmonious time periods, it's important to tie it all together along with the locational astrology to get as clear of picture as possible about the planetary influences in your life as a whole.

Below is an example of what the Viṁśottarī Daśā looks like, totaling 120 years with major planetary periods spanning decades, and sub-periods spanning years.
